Concert Review: Alter Bridge
A lot of concerts this summer! I think this will be the last, although we'll see.
I went to go see Alter Bridge this weekend, and they put on a decent show, but it's just not my cup of tea. Alter Bridge plays very meat and potatoes hard rock, with some metal elements included. Featuring the guitarist, bassist, and drummer from Creed and vocalist/guitarist Myles Kennedy, who has worked with Slash among others, Alter Bridge came to rock out, and they accomplished their goal.
There were riffs that I enjoyed a lot, as well as some catchy choruses that had the crowd singing along, but on the whole I was mostly bored. The drumming was stereotypical boring hard rock drumming, lacking much creativity. The bass was audible (at least) but boring. Kennedy and guitarist Tremonti were the standouts. Kennedy's voice still sounds great, and Tremonti played some decent solos and added in plenty of pinch harmonics for a nice touch. It's clear that Tremonti really enjoys the more metal side of things, compared to Creed, as his execution of the metal elements were quite nicely done, but just done too rarely.
Anyway, if you like hard rock, Alter Bridge puts on a good show. If you're mostly bored by a lot of it like me, feel free to skip their tour stop near you.
